A Contra Dance will be held in Tehachapi, California on Friday, September 19, 2008.  The dance will be hosted by District 3 of the California Old-Time Fiddlers’ Association.  Wayne Thompson will be our caller at the Veterans Hall, (125 E. F St.) and the fun begins at 6 p.m.  Live music will be lead by fiddling, Gayel Pitchford and an assortment of great local musicians (more fiddles, guitars, mandolin & string bass).   Refreshments will be served and the admission is $5.00 for adults & $2.00 for children.  For more information, call Maria Weir Werth at 822-4150.

Every year in September, the annual fiddle contest is held called, “Fiddlin’ Down the Tracks.”  This year it will be held September 19 – 21, 2008 at the West Park Activity Center.  This is a State sanctioned competition and the winners are eligible to compete at the National Old Time Fiddler’s Contest in Weiser, Idaho.   Winners also receive trophies, medallions and cash prizes as well.   There are many different types of contests, band scrambles and usually a dance one of the evenings as well as a Sunday Gospel Sing-a-long.   (For more information visit www.tehachapi.com/fiddlecontest or contact Carol Horne at (661) 972-1080).

On the second Saturday of every month, you can come over to the Veteran’s Hall (F Street) for the monthly fiddle jam. The next one will be Saturday, August 9, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Fiddlers, mandolin players, guitarists and other assorted instrumentals play together for about three hours. Bring your fiddle, mandolin and/or guitar and join them when you can. Toe tappers are welcome and refreshments will be served.
